Wednesday data center tidbits: greenwashing the data center, failing in the cloud

First up today is the piece about about the “100% solar powered” data center in Canada. The roof mounted solar panels supply 1800 watts of power. 1800 watts. That’s slightly more than the average hair dryer. And this counts as a data center? I call greenwashing.

Next up is a piece about companies loading the data center with tons of new servers to deploy private cloud computing and a mention that servers per user may not decrease until 2020. I’m sorry, but if you complete any cloud computing project and you end up with more servers than you started with, it’s a FAIL.

Email or call me or visit the SwiftWater Telecom web site for cloud computing services.
