Tuesday data center tidbits.

Wow, the shark jumping is in full swing. First up is the story that Sarasota,FL is kissing up to Google by renaming City Island to Google Island, ala the recent Topeka, KS renaming in the Google broadband chase. It’s fascinating when people totally lose all sense of their dignity.

Next up is defining an API for an entire data center. This strikes me as a ridiculous idea. I’ll agree that APIs for major services make sense (cloud computing, database services, storage) but trying to treat the data center as a monolithic whole (except in the case of something like warehouse scale computing where large numbers of tightly connected servers do essentially the same things) sounds too much like jamming a round peg into a square hole.
