Friday data center tidbits.

First up is a story about cloud computing and virtualization wasting IT resources. The story says “Cloud-computing providers … provide a lot of power and flexibility on demand, but it takes too much time for a resource-constrained IT shop to set up or modify”. Um, it takes more time and effort to set up a cloud based virtual server than it does to spec, approve, buy, configure, and install another physical server? In what strange and warped alternate reality? For the record, provisioning a virtual on our cloud takes a total of 35 minutes from ground zero with only 2 minutes of actual hands on time required.
