Friday data center tidbits.

First up is the piece about Chicago colocation facility being robbed for the 4th time in 2 years. This is really an epic fail. I wonder if they pay their staff combat pay?

Next up is the piece about using taller 9 foot racks and cabinets in the data center. This is a great way to maximize space usage in a congested data center (telephone central offices have used racks up to 11 feet commonly). The biggest concern here, aside from supporting them safely, is to make darn sure you don’t exceed your floor load capacity!

  2. CI Host’s robberies were in 2006 and 2007, and while it’s still fun to reminisce about their problems (I have visited their site before, as a customer not a robber) it’s certainly not timely.
