First up today is the Symantec report that 50% of data centers are understaffed and companies are looking to cut more. Unless you take steps to reduce the workload as well (automation, virtualization, mobile system administration, etc), this is a disaster waiting to happen. It might work when things are normal, but what happens when the abnormal shows up?
Number two item is from the same report, 1/3 of respondents said that their disaster recovery plans were undocumented! This is like riding a unicycle on a greased tightrope over a tank of sharks. The amount of tolerance businesses have for wild risks never ceases to amaze me.
