I’ve just been reading about virtualization for critical apps. The upshot is that critical application performance can’t be tuned because network pathways are being adjusted internally and automatically. I have news for you, if you’re serving this app to the Internet in general, degradations in application performance by the adjustment of the portion of the path internal to the data center virtualization is going to be miniscule compared to the path changes that occur on the public net. Also, the network path changes inside the data center are part and parcel of the fault tolerance of the virtual cloud. They’re rarely ever totally performance perfect but I’d rather take the tiny hit and not have to roll in in the middle of the night to fix a down server.
